6:30 AM in the morning vs 6:30 AM at night

6:30 AM at NIGHT

6:30 AM is a time when I am rarely up and about, but this week I've actually seen this time of day from two different perspectives.

Sunday night I was preparing the class that I teach on Mondays and in an amazing burst of energy, with help from some coffee ice cream, I finished the lesson plan for both this past Monday and next Monday, and then since I wasn't sleepy yet I went ahead and wrote the final exam! So I'm all done with the real work of teaching the course except for the actual teaching, which is totally fun, and grading things, which is always interesting and sometimes fun too. By the time I was finished with all of that it was 6:30 AM. So I went to bed on Sunday at 6:30 AM at night.

Then today (only two days later) we had a 6:30 AM in the morning delivery of wallboard over at our real house, I mean our fantasy house. That was rather painful for me. We actually had to get up at 5:30 to make it over there in time. The light is certainly very different in the early morning hours. I think it might be the best thing about this hour of the day.

Based on my experiences with 6:30 AM this week, I am officially declaring that 6:30 AM at night is much more pleasant for me than 6:30 AM in the morning! Can you tell that I'm sleep deprived?

I have realized for a while that you were a night owl, but going to bed at 6:30 am sounds like working the night shift! Both photos are nice as they divide night and day from different directions...

What class are you teaching?

Wait...there are TWO 6:30s in the day? LOL! And yes, Christian McBride was totally great in that DVD. When you get you'll see more candid shots of him and an interview where they talk about why he decided to come and play with Sting and everything.

OK, that's get IT. When you get IT you'll see more candid shots...

I definitely prefer the late night version, myself, but both pics are great.

Barbara - Sunday night was an extreme example - it's not good to stay up that late. I've been paying for it ever since. The class I'm teaching is beginning jazz improvisation.

Sassy - I'm looking forward to getting that DVD. I wish I could go hear him at the Black Rock PAC in Germantown, but I'm working that night.

Kristin - Okay you can probably relate to this then, especially since you travel so much. Sometimes it seems easier to just stay up when I have a ridiculously early flight. How about you?

Ugh, I am trying to work on my final exam. I get all stressed out worrying about whether the questions are fair, whether I should have focused more on this aspect of a style or that performer. There's just no way to get it all in in one semester. But I hate hate hate the test-creating process, probably because this is the first semester I've had to do it.

I also hate grading, mostly because I get really annoyed when I have to give a bad grade on a project because someone just didn't follow directions. At least grading tests it's not so subjective, it's either right or wrong.

I'm ready for my break... two more weeks...

I'm kind of a hardass about that. If you taught it to them and then you test them on it, it's fair. You just have to sure all of the questions are worded in a really straightforward and obvious manner.

It is unfortunate when somebody doesn't do as well as they could because they didn't follow the directions. A lot of them actually need to be reminded to be extra careful to follow the directions because that's really the trickiest part of the whole assignment! Mine did much better with that on the second project. It's almost as if they assume that following the directions that you have carefully prepared for them to follow in order to successfully complete the assignment is an option - until you tell them otherwise. What's up with that? Did I used to be like that too? Probably not, if I wanted to get an A. That's how it works, right?

Do you want to carpool to the gig in Atlantic City?
